What is a TVR?

A TVR is a British Sports car that was hand made in Blackpool, England. The TVR company was started in 1947 by TreVoR Wilkinson -- hence the name. It has gone through quite a few owners (and bankruptcies!), TVR was England's largest English owned producer of sports cars, making exotic, very expensive cars that were great value for the money (being much faster and less expensive than Porsches, for example), but in the early 21st century were sold by owner Peter Wheeler to a young Russian owner, who eventually closed the plant and sold the remains of the company to a couple of American entrepreneurs. They have promised to restart production, making TVR an assembly company with parts from Ricardo (engine) and some Italian firms producing the bodies. They intend to import these exotic and expensive cars to the USA as well as distribute them in Europe and around the world. However, we have seen little action as of early 2008. Lets hope the new owners have success and are able to restart production and importation during the new year!

The TVR Car Club North America is a group of people interested in TVRs. TVRs were imported into the USA during the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, and part of the 1980s. Some of the cars that were sold here are shown below.
